No star student. Everyone has had a turn.

Monday - Unfortunately a lot of kinders were out sick. I hope they're all better for the fun days towards the end of the week. We wrote thank you letters to our parent classroom helpers. The kinders were working like first graders! I was very proud of them. After snack recess we did the Limbo. How low can you go!
Zach was the Limbo king and Kayla was the Limbo queen. :)

Tuesday - Today we did a science experiment using different types of wood. Ask your kinder. We also saw a play called, The Might Casey, by Mrs. Sorba's second grade class. We cleaned out our cubbies and I passed out their kindergarten yearbooks and they had them signed. Last but not least we did the Limbo again! I could tell that a lot of kinders went home and practiced after yesterday! They each had their own unique stlye. Very entertaining!

Wednesday - Field Day! We had a blast! Ask your kinder which activity was their favorite.

Thursday - The last day of kindergarten. It is a bittersweet day. Sad, because I am saying goodbye to my class. But happy, because I am so proud of how all of them have learned and grown. All of them are ready for first grade. Besides teaching my students the standards, I always want to teach them a love of learning. This class was easy! They already had it. We took many side trips into learning this year which was fun. I even learned some new things too. We learned about goats, the Himalayas and kangaroos. Just to name a few. Thank you for sending me such wonderful, curious kinders. This year was fun! Have a wonderful summer!

Monday - Memorial Day Holiday.

Tuesday - We finished our last page of our All About Me books today. Look for them in your child's Friday Folder. They are very sweet. We also wrote in our science journals today. Most of the class has seedlings. Some do not. So in those cups we have planted more seeds.

Wednesday - We had Mr. Ben return so we could play our T-ball game. We had a great time. It was fun and it was hot! We also had a little time to play on the first grade playground.

Thursday - Today we watched our fourth grade buddies perform a musical about the California gold rush. The kinders loved it! The fourth graders did a fantastic job! It was called, Gold Dust or Bust.

Friday - Today we went to the fifth grade state fair. The kinders enjoyed hearing about different states. each group of four kinders were able to visit at least five states. After snack recess, Tony Bentivegna (Sophia's dad), came in with his collection of instruments. He played one from each group, percussion, string, woodwind and brass. He is a gifted musician and the kinders and I could of listened to his music all afternoon. His last song was a Beatle's tune, Here Comes the Sun. Very fitting for this year! The kinders know this song from the Bee movie?!

Next week is a very busy week! On Tuesday your child will empty out their cubby and take home all of their workbooks. We never have enough time to do all of the pages. Your child can work on them over the summer. I will also give them their passport for summer study on
Study Island. For every 20 blue ribbons they earn over the summer, I will give them an eagle card next year! They will receive a letter for you and some blue ribbons along with a passport book to put them in. Have fun! Their is also a letter about Field Day and the last day of school.

Have a fun weekend!

Zachary is Star Student!

Monday - Summer is in the air and the natives are getting restless! Phew! I'm having to turn a lot of cards lately! Please remind your child that we still have school and yes, we are still listening and learning. For the most part they are doing okay. But I need them with me for three more weeks! Today in Social Studies we learned about the months of the year. How many there are and we reviewed their names. We also checked on the progress of our beans seeds. Between the lousy weather and the birds that steal the seeds not much is happening. :( We have now re-planted and we are hoping for some sunshine!

Tuesday - Still not much sunshine! This week we are making bread just like the Little Red Hen. Not one kinder has said, "Not I!". I take it home to bake and we eat it the next day. It is Irish soda bread. Some of the kinders like it, some do not. A recipe will be in your child's Friday Folder. I have also included a recipe for strawberry shortcake from the book Cook-A-Doodle-Doo. This book is another version of the Little Red Hen that I have read to the kinders. I've made this recipe and it is delicious!

Wednesday - I was out due to a doctor's appointment. Mrs. Womack was my sub. The kinders saw what they described as an "awesome" bike assembly. Ask your kinder.

Thursday - Mr. Ben was our visiting teacher for the day. His theme was t-ball. He read them an ABC book called H is for Homerun. We then extended this and made our own ABC baseball book. Mr. Ben also helped check work, worked with the US puzzle center and led the kinders through calendar. Due to rain we did not get to play t-ball. But we will bring Mr. Ben back next week to have our game if the weather cooperates! The kinders did play a pick-up game at recess. Their arms were their bat. Mr. Ben was the pitcher, the outfield and the infield. They wore him out!

Friday - Crazy Hair Day! We survived and not one card was turned! Way to go kinders!

Have a fabulous three day weekend! Please remember that next week is our last week of centers. Thank you for all of your help all year long!

C.J. is star student.

Monday - I can't believe that the weather is still rainy and cold! Needless to say we spent recess inside. Some kinders came to school without jackets though. Unless it is raining we are outside at recess. The kinders get cold. Please make sure they dress in layers. Thank you. Today we worked on writing in our All About Me books. Since we were inside at recess I put in a Magic School Bus video called, Inside Ralphie. It was about a little boy who is sick and it went through how our body reacts to fight germs. The kinders were fascinated!

Tuesday - In Writer's Workshop we worked on writing our first book report. We wrote another page in our All About Me books too. In math we are wrapping up our unit on time.

Wednesday - Career Day - We were very lucky to have a police officer and a firefighter. Officer Anton from the SFPD came and told the kinders about his job. He showed them some of the tools he uses and his Motorcycle with sirens and flashing lights. Then we walked over to Fire Fighter Nick's fire engine. He showed them all of his tools and they each got to sit in the driver's seat! A very exciting day!

Thursday - Gia was teacher for the day! The kinders had to call her Miss Gia. Gia loves cats, so our theme for the day was cats. For Daily News Miss Gia had the kinders write about their favorite animal. She also led them in a directed drawing of a cat and then helped me oversee their Writer's Workshop paper on cats. I also gave her an official teacher pen and she helped me check their work. Miss Gia did a fantastic job! The kinders loved having another kinder as their teacher. Next Thursday we will have Ben Schiff as our teacher of the day. His theme will be baseball. Your kinder can wear a t-shirt supporting their favorite team. Even if it is the Dodgers. (Go Giants!) We also visited Mrs. Dee's fifth grade class. They put on a wax museum.
Each of her fifth graders dressed up as an important historical figure and gave us a short speech about their person. They did a fantastic job!

Friday - We wrote thank you notes to our visitors on Career Day. This week three of our butterflies have hatched. Ask your kinder. they are so excited!

Have a great weekend!

One of our mosquito pupa turned into a mosquito over the weekend.

Tuesday - Mrs. Comfort's last day of PE is this Thursday. We will miss her. The kinders wrote thank you letters to her today. The kinders also started working on a book titled, "All About Me".

Wednesday - We worked on Making Words today, had a quick library time and learned some more about ants. I loved all the beautiful flowers and notes the kinders gave to me. They are so sweet!

Thursday - Our last day of PE with Mrs. Comfort! She loved the letters the kinders wrote to her. Ask your kinder what their favorite activity was in PE.

Friday - As you know I was out. I'm so sorry I ruined the surprise. Like I told Tiphanie, it's hard to surprise a teacher! :)

To all of my wonderful kindergarten moms, Happy Mother's Day! Thank you for my wonderful kindergartners! They always come to school ready and happy to learn. I'm so proud of them!

K-2 April 26-30

Star student is Michael.

Monday - We learned about bees and wasps today. Ask your kinder what the wasp nests in our classroom are made of and who made them. We also worked in writer's workshop and had a discussion of our character word of the month, trustworthiness.

Tuesday - Today the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito Control and Vector. Agency paid us a visit to teach us about mosquitoes. Eric gave a fascinating talk to the kinders and also gave them a cool cup and tattoo. He also left us with a mosquito kit to keep fo a week. We will be able to observe our mosquito larva go through metamorphosis, feed larva to our mosquito fish and look at dead mosquitoes under a magnifying glass. Some of the kinders are convinced they are still alive! We also put together a packet of worksheets for the kinders to write down their observations and extend their learning.

Wednesday - We started working in our mosquito packets today. The kinders are basically reading the packet themselves! I'm so proud of their reading abilities!

Thursday - It is so exciting to watch the kinders work on their mosquito packets. I'm really impressed with their reading skills. It is so rewarding to see how much they have learned. This
is one of the many reasons I love my job! In PE we worked with agility ladders. Ask your kinder.

Friday - We had two extra helpers in kdg. today. Two high school seniors, Cecilia and Jenee, came and helped us prep, played soccer and ate snack with the kinders. We also made hand flowers and watched a Reading Rainbow video on the life cycle of a honeybee.

Have a super weekend!

K-2 AM April 19 - 23

Star student is Nathan.

Monday - We had a slow start to the day. I think everyone including me had a very relaxing week off! We started a new unit in science today about insects. We learned about metamorphosis of a butterfly. Ask your kinder what are the four stages.

Tuesday - Today we were all back into the swing of things. We learned a new song about the body parts of an insect. Have your kinder sing it to you. We also started learning how to tell time on an analog clock. We learned about the minute hand and the hour hand. We also discussed how many seconds in a minute and how many minutes in an hour. We then practiced hands on with mini clocks telling time to the hour. I was impressed! They caught on so quickly that I taught them time to the half hour. Again, they caught on quickly. I told them next time when we work on this I will teach them time to quarter after the hour and forty five minutes after the hour. I have never had a class that as a whole caught on to time so quickly! Great job!

Wednesday - This week we also started working on 4-step writing. The kinders pick a subject to write about. They then tell me three facts or interesting ideas about their subject. They wite one in each box. In the last box they write how they feel about their subject, why they like it etc.
They don't know it, but 4-step writing is a precursor to writing a paragraph.

Thursday - Today we continued to learn more about moths and butterflies. One fact we learned is butterflies taste with their feet. We also worked with Making Words. The words included the digraphs sh, th and ch. The kinders did very well.

Friday - In Writer's Workshop the kinders learned how to write a letter. Each of them has started to write a letter to a parent, friend, grandparent etc. I told them that you would help them mail it when they bring it home. We also watched a video about butterflies. As a special treat they also had popcorn with their video.

Wish list - The usual- baby wipes and glue sticks!

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend. I hope to see you at the Spring Fling. I will be there. Be sure to check out the beautiful jewelry made from the kinders drawings. Thank you again Stephanie!

Monday - Today instead of Writer's Workshop we worked on writing a complete sentence. They picked pictures from three different groups, "Who", "Did what", "Where". They had to use helping words to make the sentence make sense. Everyone did a great job!

Tuesday - Today was our last day of music with Dave Fromer. He brought in his son Reed today to sing with the kinders also. Reed plays a mean keyboard and the kinders loved singing with both of them today. Be sure to ask your kinder what song they liked best. We also worked on Writer's Workshop today, centers and math.

Wednesday - We worked on Making Words.

Thursday - Mrs. Comfort is a grandma for the first time! She has a new little grandson named Gideon. We did not have PE with her today, but I gave the kinders extra playtime and they got to run on the big playground!

Friday - It was an absolutely beautiful day to be by the bay in Tiburon! We had a great field trip to the Audubon Center. We went on a five senses hike with two great naturalist, Pam Pelican and Lisa Ladybug. Ask your kinder what we saw, heard, tasted, touched and smelled. While Mrs. Pack's class was on their hike we ate lunch. We had a beautiful view of the city and the blimp. Go Giants! We them explored and played on the small private beach. The kinders found crabs, built a bug castle, crumbled churt, made designs in the sand etc. It was FUN! Ask your kinder what they liked best.

Have a fabulous Spring Break!
